God is GREATER than sex.
And by that I mean:
God is bigger than sex
and
God is better than sex.
We humans get so caught up in our earthly desires, impulses, and pent up emotions.
We try to translate all these things rushing around inside our heads and hearts, but we don't know the full language of the soul.
Who knows better?
The CREATOR or the CREATED?
He knows us inside and out and is willing to meet the needs/wants we have racing around inside us in a way that is truly the most healthy and beneficial to our continued growth in Him. But we must ask Him to do so and continually turn to Him when dealing with all that was tainted in the Fall of Man.
Colossians 3:2 reminds us to "Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth."
If we let our minds be taken over by sensual and sexual things, our focus and efforts fall short of what Christ has in mind for us. He gifted us with a beautiful way to engage with another human in the most intimate and vulnerable way as a reminder of how it will be one day when we're in His presence, rejoicing in the truth of His glory.
2 Corinthians 6:12, 15-20 does a great job of summing up the battle of choices between worldly emotions and Godly strength of character: "All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be!
Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.”
But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body."
Additional verses that remind us that we can be more than conquerors in Christ are 1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it"
and Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. "
It's not about "getting what I deserve" - it's about accepting His grace and mercy to gratify Him.
